Good governance is essential if a not for profit organisation is to be fully effective. Organisations should operate within the framework of good governance generally although their characteristics may present practical difficulties. Not for profit organisations need governance arrangements which enable efficient decision-taking while involving members. The roles of the chairman, the board and committees must be clearly defined.
